Based in DO Yecla, a small Denomination situated north-east
of the province of Murcia on a high plateau, Bodegas y Viñedos
Valle de Salinas are a new and exciting project established
in 2004 and situated 12 km south-east of the town of Yecla
on the road to Pinoso. Their
vineyards are located in the northern foothills of the Sierra
de Salinas, a range of mountains which separates Yecla from
Alicante and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. At
the present time, 19 hectares are planted with the low- yielding
Monastrell,
aged between 25 and 30 years, and about 5 hectares with Cabernet
Sauvignon, and another 5 with Syrah.
The vineyards, about 550 m above sea level, are north-facing
and are of basically stony, sandy deep soils which enjoy good
permeability. Climate is Continental with Mediterranean influences,
cold, sunny winters and hot summers, and a low, scarce rainfall
averaging 300 mm per annum. These factors are ideal for the
cultivation of the Monastrell grape which is perfectly adapted
to this low rainfall and hence produces yields of 1.5 kilos/vine
and wines of great quality. No irrigation is permitted. Bodegas
y Viñedos Valle de Salinas are committed to the making
of superior quality wines. We
are their UK agents.
