Bodegas Rincón de Pedraza produce some of the best,
excellent value, young Spanish whites we have ever tasted.
They are situated in the locality of Santiuste de San Juan
Bautista which is the only part of DO Rueda that is in the
province of Segovia. The winter is cold with frequent frosts;
the spring has a rainfall of about 200 mm; the summer is dry
and hot and in October, at the time of the harvest, it is
dry with mild temperatures. The area has soil of poor organic
matter, stony with good drainage with some calcareous soil
appearing on the higher ground. The texture varies from sandy-lime
to lime. It is rich in calcium, magnesium and other microelements
which are essential for the correct development of the vine. The
vineyards are planted with Verdejo,
Sauvignon
Blanc and Viura.
The Verdejo, a variety indigenous to the region since the
11th century, has flavours that are reminiscent of mountain
herbs and fruital notes, giving a slight sensation of sweetness
because of the grape’s glycerine and alcohol components
which balance its excellent acidity. Sauvignon Blanc, introduced
from the Loire in the '70s, has adapted well to the climate
and soil. It produces wines of good acidity and freshness
with great aromatic intensity, exotic fruits and a touch of
jasmine. Viura was introduced in the '50s. The quality of
the wine begins with the very careful selection of the vines
from which the grapes are collected. Careful harvesting at
night ensures the freshness of the grapes. The bodega is equipped
with the most advanced methods of elaboration but also respects
the traditional principles of vinification. We are the appointed
UK agents for Bodegas Rincón de Pedraza.
